I've been using 888s, which themselves used to be the cheap alternative to A048s. Well, that honeymoon period is over so they're now the same price.

Browsing various sites I've noticed Federal RS track tyres. Anyone used them at all? They appear to be the new sensibly priced option.

I think TOENHEEL used these on his MK2 Golf track project.

Search in Readers cars, If I remember correctly he rated them quite highly.

I like Achilles 123 as a budget track tyre... significantly cheaper than a half decent road tyre (T1R etc) in MX5 sizes smile

Used then on my rentracecar Swift at the 'ring this weekend

These were fairly well worn but still grippy - I'd be tempted if they were a lot cheaper than 048's. Not good in the standing water from the deluge on Friday night though - that was a very slow lap!

I had always really rated Formula R's and had a few sets on my car. I was unable to get some at some point and reluctantly went for A048's expecting them not to be as good. Well, I was really impressed and rate them as good as formula r's now. I think the key to it is to get the right compound for your needs
