Fuel is expensive when...

...you make a prepayment at the pump on your credit card and discover £99.99 is insufficient to fill your tank! frown

I had the same issues years ago when the 'floor' limit was not enough to fill up the 90L tank in my e34 M5. I even managed a £150 fill-up once mad

The raising of the floor limits helped a little, but I solved the problem by going to a car with a smaller tank tongue out

The fuel is relatively cheap compared to a couple of KitKats and a bag of Walkers in the petrol station shop...

Why do people do this, am I the only one that just fills the car up so I don't have to come back for as long as possible?

Hire cars maybe? Only time I've done it.

But, yes, I appreciate it's far more widespread than that. Even though 'just putting a tenner in' won't actually allow you to clear the forecourt these days.

Mines only got a £40 tank so i tend to just stick £30 or £40 in at a time. But i tend to pay in cash so i dont like to go over a set amount as it saves breaking another note.

I work for minimum wage, i'd rather chuck in money when I need to, than throw half my weeks wages in at once. And driving a MG, having money spare means I can kind of afford it when it breaks.

When you're paid weekly (circ 200quid) and have other bills to pay....... Chucking £90+ in the tank in 1 go is a bit steep.

Especially if the car in question doesn't do more than 100miles a week, and £20 will suffice amply

I don't see the point in it, though it does hurt that in less than 6 months I have spent more than the car cost me in fuel for it.

Cost me £107 to full up the tank on my 350Z. It was £40 less only a couple of years ago wobble
