My next door neighbour has a 06/55 Megane 1.9D Dynamique 5dr 71k in silver. She wants to trade it for a Fiesta 1.4D Zetec 3dr. She has also looked at a Seat Ibiza Copa 1.2d.

I think the dealers are exploiting the fact she is a woman and have offered £2700 trade in against the Fiesta and she can't have the colour she wants because of the '7 month waiting list' for Dark Micastone, but they do have a black one in the compound. On top of the trade in value, they want full retail on the Fester/Ibiza. Ford dealer actually originally offered £2200 for the Megane, but has since upped his offer.

What do we reckon chaps? I personally think she should be able to squeeze another £500 for the Megane/get more freebies and the colour of Fiesta she wants.

She doesn't particularly want to finance the deal.

ETA: Full Renault history on the Megane.

£2700 is a good shout for that car.

£2700 seems a fair offer I would imagine WBAC won't better it and the only way she would get more is a private sale.

As for getting the fiesta she wants that should be a lot easier than the dealer suggests if a bit of internet searching for other dealers is carried out. Unless you are very specific about spec a dealer I spoke to at the end of April had about 60 various ones from stock and was discounting £2k + from list before any real negotiation had been done.

So £2700 is okay. All I have to do now is find the right Fester.

yes

Broadspeed are offering over £2k off. Dealer should be able to get close to this.

get her to look for the cars via online brokers, and see what prices offer the cars for. They may even do part-exs (not sure).

The thing she'll need to bear in mind is that there are severe production problems facing all manufacturers at the moment due to the issues in Japan so dealers might take the supply and demand angle and not offer any discounts.

The one I visited was post Japan earth quake and offered £2k off a brand new zetec with a couple of the desired options, they also offered top book for our PX and if we took finance an extra £500 as a 'deposit contribution'. With that kind of deal being offered to a potential customer who walks in to browse there was probably a little more in it if we had gone ahead.
