As per the title really! smile

I have driven one and it went well but had a noisy tensioner and the miles were a bit high.

Anyone have any thoughts on these based on experience?

Cheers all smile

Good car, shame about the boat anchor under the bonnet.

It was a nice tight drive and the torque was impressive.

I guess it would also respond well to remapping smile

Remapped cars used to have high pressure fuel pump issues, and the injectors will die if you use supermarket fuel. The DMF flywheel which is a weak point will die quicker, too.

It's a bad engine, I'd rather buy a Titanium X with the 2.0TDCI and map it to 160-ish. Same/better spec, and an engine less likely to fill it pants.

Mate had one, clutch went at 60k, could be wrong but i believe its a MASSIVE job, someone even mentioned engine out.

Same with all Mk3 Mondeos. I paid £360 mates-rates for clutch on mine.

Several dealers/independent garages were quoting around £750 for clutch and flywheel.

Looked at getting one just after I got my 220 as a work horse. Too many reliability issues for me. Plenty go on & on but plenty have failed.......(mine would be the latter!)

Are you sure you don't have the 2.2 and the 2.0 mixed up? When I was researching my Mondeo last year, I found that the 2.0 TDCI 130 was plagued with problems from the DMF, clutch, turbo, injectors etc etc etc. Might be why they are so cheap on the used market smile

Not so sure about the 2.2 as that was out of my price range, but the 2.0 is definitely not a reliable engine!

Picked ours up 6 weeks ago, on a 07 ST 155 TDCI average miles. Loving the space, all the toys, torque great, good ride, 45-55mpg. Problems i.e. EGR valve, injectors well documented online. EGR do yourself it takes 10 minutes easy. Ours brought to ferry about an expanding family, ticks all the boxes. Haven't looked at remaps yet but its on the list.

It's the 2.2, not the 2.0 - that's all I meant.

I think the 2.0 has quite a few issues.

If both engine are unreliable, why does eveyone hold them in such high regard - I'm reading this and thinking I'll give a miss tbh.

How about a 407 2.2 HDi then smile

Aesthetically challenged (especially the SW)!

Maybe I should start a new thread for this one wink

Supermarket fuel being materially different to what, exactly?

Do you think Tesco own their own refinery and fuel storage - it's still fuel from a big provider, maybe with a few less additives.

Because when they work, they are brilliant smile

It is only when they start approaching 80k ish miles they start to experience problems. Plus they have sold thousands upon thousands of the things, so there will be more faults popping up by default. Plus most people come on the internet to complain, not everyone comes on singing the praises of their diesel Mondeo!

If you can find one that has just had a new clutch and DMF that has been looked after, then you should be on to a winner.

If you join some owner forums you will see problems can arise waaaaaay before then. Like I said, get a bad one & you will know about it, otherwise they can go on & on..........

Very true, all depends how they are driven. I remember being told by a mate's Dad that the Mondeo was a terrible car and that the clutch would go every 30k miles. He then gave me a lift home, and seeing him set off at 2.5k rpm minimum made me wonder why...

Had mine for 3 years, and wracked up over 50k on it, lovely car, the weight of the engine pendulums a bit when pressing on, on B roads. Lovely and comfy place to sit for miles on end, If you have kids the space in them is huge, made the 3 series I had after feel tiny. On the subject of 3 series comparisons, the ride was massively better in the Mondeo over the 3, granted the 3 series was mport (bone hard suspension + run flats = rattled teeth). If you do go for one, try and get the Recaros, from memory i think they also come with heat. but not sure about electical adjust.

Every type of car I have had over the years someone on the internet point out an inherent fault with it. I personally make sure I get the best one I can for the money, FSH, well looked after, the usual pish. Most things mechanical will break at some point, the greater worry is people think that they wont.

I have a 55 plate 2.2 TDCi Ghia X (same engine as the ST) with 128k on it now and never had an issue at all from new. Just had regular servicing which i think is the key to it, i would think it would be the town miles/never serviced cars that would have major issues.

I even checked the EGR at 115k myself and it was as clean as a whistle smile
