Hi All
Just booked the family holiday but decided to be a cheapskate and not go for any checked in bags!!
flying Ryanair (I know! I know!! but it was cheap!!) another reason not to check in any bags!
So 4 of us flying and all 4 will have hand luggage.
Question is can anyone recommend some hand luggage that is the max size you can take onboard?
Thanks
Andy

Can't help but doing similar on Jet2.

Interesting in how big you can get away with!

How long is the holiday for? Can't see how you'll manage it tbh.

I have a Lowe Alpine TT Carry On 40 but there are quite a few companies specialising in maximum dimension hand luggage now. Probably the Rolls Royce of carry ons is the Tom Bihn Aeronaut. The quality of Tom Bihn stuff is top notch, I bought a bag from them on a Sunday and had it by the following Friday (Seattle to the Isle of Man in less than a week is impressive).

I've just bought one of these for flying on Jet2 on Thursday:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cabin-Max-Backpack-Approve...

It won't win any style awards but it does what it says on the tin, nice and spacious and seems robust enough too.

Brave man, have you told the missus yet ?!

You know there's a weight limit too ?

Books and magazines are a complete no no as they'll weigh you right down.

It's going to cost him far more in new luggage and Kindles than if he had paid O'Leary to load it in the hold wink

Hi Guys

Yes i am begining to think it would of been cheaper just to of paid the man!!
as luck would have it we just bought my daughter a Kindle so thats her sorted!!

The main problem was when i booked we had the option of us all putting bag in the hold or none of us, and the last time i flew with them i almost missed the flight trying to book in the hold luggage!!

Still it's done now!!

Cheers guys
Andy

Disney shop kiddy suitcases are the right size and you can get a lot in them but weight is the issue though the case itself is very light.

£20 a throw unfortunately unless you can find some less popular characters being sold cheap. remarkably robust too. People want to question you less about an obviously kiddy bag too... wink

This ^^, absolutely this. Sorry but rofl

Also don't forget if you buy something in the duty free and you try and take it through the gate without jamming it into your hand luggage, say a bottle of Scotch in the placcy bag, then they'll sting you for that too as counts as an extra piece.

£40 a pop iirc. Expensive scotch in that case.

O'Leary:- hate!

Top tip, don't take any cosmetics through customs, plan to buy them all airside from Boots. That way you don't fall foul of the 100ml problem.

Do you just bin them all before you return? Seems very wasteful and the mark up in airside chemists is noticable.

This http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2...
they do come in other colours, I have plain grey. IMHE weight can be more of killer on Ryan Air, their excess weight penalties are swinging and the accuracy of their scales is dubious at best. Likewise do not believe all the measurements given for some bags I found them to be optimistic, top tip take a tape measure when you buy, or it may not go through the size frame just prior to boarding. The staff must undergo oversize bag training and take a percentage of the extra cost of bags put in the hold at this point because they are very good at spotting them.
This case carcass also uses less of your weight allowance, being lighter than most and can be wheeled around like a normal suitcase unlike a nylon bag type one.
I travel to the Canaries 2-3 times a year with them and this is one and all my fellow travellers take. (no I have no connection with the bag makers, just another pissed off passenger whos doesn't like paying excess this and that with Ryan Air.

Agree, not sure if it operates country wide but Bournemouth has an agreement with RA that allows you to take a bag of shopping from duty free/WH Smiths as well as your hand luggage, problem solved.

Find some baggy coats with large pockets inside & out - use this for heavy stuff like books etc, and wear cargo pants or similar with multiple pockets.
