Lambo/Pork Combo To Be VW's Next Shared Dish?

Porschorghini Estomera or Lamborsche Panamareque? You decide...

Estoque concept and Mr Winkelmann
Estoque concept and Mr Winkelmann
Lamborghini could be giving the nod to a production version of its recent Estoque concept, built on a platform shared with the next generation Porsche Panamera.

We think this a) because it's been speculated on before, and b) because Lambo's chief executive Stephan Winkelmann has just told an audience at the Reuters Global Luxury and Fashion Summit (What's that and why weren't we invited? Ed.) that his (or rather VW's since 1998) company is considering adding an 'everyday' model to its line-up.

Estoque concept without Mr... yes, that.
Estoque concept without Mr... yes, that.
"We are going to have a third model. It has to be an everyday car. We want to have a car which is able to be used on a daily basis," Reuters reports that Winkelmann told his (presumably) luxuriant and fashionable fellow summiteers. The group does not plan to work with a partner on the new model, Winkelmann said, but he added: "We will use synergies where possible within the (Volkswagen) group."

So, could the beautiful (from some angles) Estoque concept from the 2008 Paris motor show be about to stage a Porsche-empowered revival? And if so, why would anyone buy a Panamera?

Meanwhile, at least the 911 is safe.

For now...

Mechanically and dynamically the Panemera is fantastic for a saloon car. Add a Lambo engine and Italian styling and it could be a fantastic bit of kit.

The back looks like a futuristic Alfa 166 - no bad thing! But (as with the Panamera) overall it looks too elongated..Looks awkward.

Let's hope "everyday model" means a 4 seater saloon/coupe, not a gash SUV.

As others have commented, the weakest link in the Panamera chain is its god awful looks. Add in some Italian flair and charm and it will be a winner. This would sell very well indeed in the growth markets of Asia and UAE et al.

The first Lamborghini since the Diablo I would actually want to own, I really hope they make this. Looks fantastic.

I would still prefer a Rapide though.

I agree. Lambo's are meant (IMO) to be sporty, impractical, fun, fast, loud and outrageous. To me, this screams "boring executive who wants to say he has a Lambo because it's expensive and sounds fun". Lambo, it seems, is starting to go to the mainstream. A step in the wrong direction IMO; same with the FF and the California.

as much as i like this car im not convinced that 4 door super cars are very useable on day to day business ive always thought this with the panemero and the maserati one
still its very good looking (as usual)

I wasn't sure initially, but actually I really like the way they've done the hidden rear doors (I assume there are rear doors?) which makes it look a lot sleeker. Much prettier than the Panamera IMO

Possible return of the LM002 moniker?

Looks fantastic to me except in the first pic where the proportions look a bit weird - could be the angle / perspective or black wheels (or a combination of these?).
It's just a shame that these "interesting" four-door supersaloons are all such big money - I'm guessing this will start about where the Panamera finishes, ie well into six figures so won't be seeing too many about. Then again, it wouldn't do if they became commonplace, I suppose...

Is the whole world going crazy? A porsche / lambo collaboration?? What of the German / Italian historical rivalry? What of the Arena Poster Wars of the 80s? The very idea should be considered an abomination. It's one thing to have joint ownership, but this is taking the michael, especially with two brands which are so evocative.

This reminds me a bit of Demolition Man where all restaurants in the future have become taco bell. We are probably going to end up driving cars with toyota electric motors, porsche gearboxes, italian build quality, and the interior plastics from a g wizz.

I think I'm going to buy a marcos out of spite.
