I have seen a very tidy looking 2003 E39 530D sport on flea bay. Looks very tidy. Full history, mot's, tax HPI checks out and so forth. Now, it appears it will possibly go for a silly price ( i expect ) which I suspect mey be due to the mileage. It's got 170k on the clock. Now I think thats alot. However, it does look very good.

So at is 170000, are these vehicles reaching the end of their life?

I dunno tbh, but there's another one on there with 210,000 miles. The one you're on about looks OK, and for that kinda money (OK there's still 3 days to go) it might be worth taking the chance.

Bear in mind the seller has 2 negative feedbacks, both to do with cars he's sold....

If you live close enough you should contact and ask for a look before you commit.

Hmm that's true. Usually if I have any doubts then I won't bother with it. Ever so slightly pimped as well which does put me off a bit. Perhaps I should go back to looking for a clean 540.

If it's been maintained the car is nowhere near the end of it's life. These are great well built motors which will run to high miles. Check if the swirl flaps have been removed (check google if you've not heard of the issue) and give it a good look over before purchase.
