Hi all, can anyone out there help? Have just bought a replacement Stepper Motor for my Griff 430, quoted all the right numbers(even numbers from body of old one). When I received it and went to fit could not because the sprung loaded plunger on the replacement was fully extended whereby the one I took out was fully contracted? They look identical apart from that, have contacted the supplier who confirms it is correct for the vehicle. Number on original was Lucas No. 70409A, replacement bought quoted that number and the following Rover ERR5199 and ETC6660? Now confused as I would like to fit new one, do I have to connect it up and activate it by turning on ignition to retract plunger?

All the best, Pete

pete just screw it in then turn the ignition on and it should set itself, dont plug it in without it screwed into the housing or it will just fall to bits when you turn the ignition on

I think you mean just plug it in to the loom (unscrewed) and then cycle the ignition on / off, it should retract as the ignition goes off. Watch out for nastly Chineese replica's though there are some tollerance issues with some.

Thanks Blitz, will do that. Having not fitted once of these parts before was a little concerned that the replacement did not screw up fully because of the full extension of the plunger. All the best, Pete

Had an issue with the stepper motor on the seac recently and found that it needed unsticking ie it started working again after cleaning .They can be a bleedin curse if they play up as the revs are either too high or low !

Thanks Combine, yes they can be a pain, mainly for me it's been the tickover at 1500 coming to a junction then settling down to a good steady 900, then later about 1500 again, before settling! Have cleaned the stepper a couple of times, the first time it seemed to cure it for a while but then went back to the original fault on the next run out, therafter any cleaning did not fix it. Hoping the new stepper motor (once I can fit it in place after retracting the plunger) will cure the problem. Apart from that Griff is running well. Have a major ignition system service on the go this coming bank holiday weekend - leads, plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm, Lucas coil and fitting plug extension which were NOT fitted when I bought the car a few weeks ago. Leads are a bit cooked and of unknown age, have bought a set of the Magnecor K45 leads, they look really pukka, so looking forward to fitting them. All the best, Pete

Hi guys, just to close this one off: I sent the stepper motor back to 'World Car Parts' as it was not working (got a full refund). Bought another from a great guy Paul who runs an eBay shop called TVR Parts, good price (£64.50), arrived within a couple of days, and has the correct Lucas number that my old one had on it! Fitted it last night and my Griff is idling properly now with no wild swings up to 1500 RPM when you come to a stop. Am also so pleased with my complete ignition overall last weekend - new set of NGK's, Extenders, Magnecor Motorsport (yellow) leads, New Dizzy Cap, Rotor and Lucas Coil. What a difference!! The old leads were well cooked and there was not any extenders fitted (NOTE only had car a month came like that). Running so well now, especially with the weather and top down motoring. Quite addictive this Griff driving isn't it! All the best, Pete
