Im currently considering a 4.5 ajp. Part of the reason im quite keen to get my hands on one is I enjoy the working on cars side of thing. It'll be something to occupy my time while I still mull over an Ultima. (im hesitatnt about the Ultima as once ive built it alot of the fun will be gone for me) Ive got a fully equiped garage at home and will be putting a scissor lift in it so equiptment isnt a problem.

Im slightly nervous around parts availability though. Is there a definitive list of what is definitely no longer availabe. For example if something crazy should occur and the block cracked, can you still obtain blocks for rebuilding?

Id consider a project car simply to keep one of these parts of british performance car history alive, but just want to make sure that there is decent parts supply. I know there is the equivalent parts list and there is a lot of stuff on there, but not much engine related.

Is there anything on a cerbera which other garage enthusisasts think are really too big a challange for the home garage. Ive previously done engine and management transplants on my 205 mi 16 and have maintained numerous golf gti's, porsche 968, Audi TT and landrover discovery.. The discovery probably being the biggest pain of them all.

Hi - I am not aware of any parts that you cant get for a cerb. So nothing to worry about. Oh actually you cant get new indicator stalks.

425 quid for a brand new block is pretty cheap intact. Oddly looking at tvr power some little bits like brackets are £90 whilst you get a whole engine block for 425

Is there anything then which those that maintain there own cars feel is out of scope of the home garage enthusiast or requires specialist tooling. Excluding stuff like gearbox rebuilds.

Cant think of anything matey you should be fine, body off for chassis work is the only thing which makes me hide behind the sofa but others have done that on here in small garages too

Cool sounds what.I'm lookin for to tinker with at weekends. I did see some pics of chassis rust on tvrcerbera.co.uk it looked pretty awful. If I get under the car will I be able to see feel most areas or is it pot luck until the body comes off.
Was thinking of going to goodwood for TAG11 but the person I spoke to at the owners club wasn't immensely helpful and didn't know if there would be non member tickets available on the day

Most Cerbs rust on the outriggers. Get a thin screwdriver on top if you can as that is where they rust most. Mine are rusty, but I treated them with POR. They still ring when hit, but eventually they will be renewed. These can be done without a body lift however.

Could you get a MIG torch all the way round where the out riggers tie in to the main space frame. I've only seen pics of the chassis with the body off so can't quite vision it

The chassis by the cats is one of the worst areas. The heat burns off the paint and allows it to rot. Difficult to inspect with engine in situ or so I believe.

Is this "new old stock" or from a recent foundry?

Who owns the pattern to the AJP 8 block. Is it now with TVR power or does some one else have rights to produce them.

It appears that the spped six engine blue prints were bought from MCD engineering where Al Melling designed. This company seem to have taken it and remedied many of the probs. According to them many of the flaws werent in the original design.
