Hi folks!

Theres a chance that I'll be importing a 1967 fastback Mustang from LA, planning on seeing it in the next couple of weeks.

Now I have a couple of questions/problems:

What sort of regulations are there for classic vehicles, do I have to put in orange indicators and a fog light? Shoulder seatbelts etc?

The main thing is that I want to actually take it to the channel islands (I ain't paying no stinkin VAT!) so whats the situation with me driving it on american plates for a while in the UK before I take it to the CI to be registered? Do I get it a year in the UK before I have to register it and pay the VAT or do I have to pay it the second it comes off the boat?

I'll have the bill of sale and export docs etc I'm guessing, but how do I drive a car that isnt registered anywhere? The US license plate will no longer be a valid plate if the car is exported so how is it even a "valid car"?

More importantly, having spoken to the channel islands equivilant of the DVLA I've been told that classics here will be given exemptions on stuff like indicators etc as long as its in keeping with the original, but I'm wondering if I bring the car to the uk (on CI plates) will I be breaking any laws?

-anything else that you can think of, words of warning/caution all appreciated!

Cheers!
