Dorian Yates - Interview

For those not aware of who Dorian is, he's was one of the best bodybuilders of our time and a superb chap who put English bodybuilding on the world stage.
Now I've got no interest in being anything like Dorian but I do appreciate, his talent, intelligence and pure determination to become the best which I think it's fair to say he smashed!
Anyway below is a interview from Bodypower at the weekend where he talks about how to build muscle and the general philosophy of it all!

A true story.
Aged 20, my house burnt down with my housemate asleep in it, whilst i was away. A tragedy yes, but then a few months later when i got a paltry sum through the insurance for my posessions i thought rather than replace with crap i would get a much needed break in.
No one else was free, so i resolved to head to Florida on my own & watch the Mr Olympia.
Hanging around a lobby area in a break i struck up a conversation with a British Judge i recognised (John ...?) who was also on his 'tod so i didn't feel such a loser! Turned out to be v.friendly & asked if i was going to the post show banquet, if so did i care to join him.
You might guess where this is headed....... so at the banquet i join said judge at his table with...... Dorian & his missus. Total 100% gent, clearly dog tired, ravenously hungry but he was interrupted constantly by a'graph hunters without showing any frustration or annoyance. He had a mountain of food in front of him which he clearly was gagging to eat but was politeness personified.

He's a smart guy and someone in my view who has a great deal of integrity and decency. Over the years I've only read good things about him and he continues to help educate the world on bodybuilding.
A true ambassador of the discipline and a true Englishman.
hmm...........Agree with the sentiments of Ordinary Chap, Dorian's work ethic was absolutely mind blowing, scary even. For some reason he reminds me a bit of Mike Tyson; a fascinating character but rarely lets his guard down. A bit of an enigma. If I remember correctly that photograph is probably from 1993, definitely the year he came in in his best shape. Unfortunately after that his "heavy duty" style of training took its toll on his physique. A true champion.

Dorian is a family friend of ours. My Dad founded Temple Gym which he sold to Dorian after he became a pro. I used to steal cookies off him as a kid
