Seen a couple of nice looking deals for Tunisia recently. Anybody been in the last month or two? Is it safe?? I assume it'll be pretty damn hot in July??

I was in Tunisia at the end of April. Got a great deal, £220 half board. We stayed in Port el-Kantaoui (near Sousse) in the Royal Kenz hotel.

Everything was perfectly safe, no sign of anything untoward, we even took a tour down to the Sahara right next to the border of Libya and all was fine.
The hotels and tourist areas were quiet, one restaurant we went too right across from the hotel was totally empty, but the staff were truly delighted to see us and just kept piling on the 'freebies'.

Sousse as a place though, we did not get on very well with the souks, just too in your face for our liking, everyone was trying to get money off you, some less honest than others. But just keep your wits about you and walk off, and that bloke in the street that recognised you from the hotel, didn't, it's a standard trick we were warned off before we went, and had it tried on us.

We did the Sahara tour with Thomsons via all the Burbar caves and Star-Wars sets, something I was very skeptical off (i've never done a package holiday before), but easily was the best £80 I've spent on the holiday, Landcruiser safari into the Sahara was a particular highlight (helped by a truly nuts driver).

Don't think I'd make a point of going back, and definitely not at full price, but for the cost I had a pretty good time. It was pretty hot then, so I guess it will be very hot by now.

I'd agree with the above poster. We went in April to this place:

Cost us £560 for the 2 of us for a week AI. All we wanted was a week off work, and to sit by the pool and read. After being to Egypt I couldn't be @rsed venturing out to get hassled and there was bugger all to do in the resort as I understand it anyhow. Some of the places we drove through looked worse than 3rd world and I've visited a few actual 3rd world countries in my time!

Hotel was awesome though, great room, really good food couldn't fault it. I've paid 4 times as much for similar holiday to the Caribbean and they weren't any better. I'd go back tomorrow for the same deal, same time zone 3ish hour flight are other pluses too.
