Buying from trade – What obligations? Oh and a what car sug
Discussion
My other halfs sister is looking for a new car. She had a 57 plate 1.6 Focus which got written off. The car is shared by the sister and her boyfriend. They gave me a call last night to get an opinion on a Hyundai coupe they had seen. It’s on an 04 plate and is a 2.0SE so has all the toys. It is up for just over 3.5K and has 32K miles on it. I told them it will not be the quickest car but they look nice (IMHO) and should be reliable. However, I asked what service history it had and the dealer told them it had only one stamp at 7K and was due a service at 27K, which has not been done. This sounds a bit fishy to me. The car would have come with a 5 year warranty that I would have thought required a service at least once a year or every couple. I then thought that maybe the 1st owner had only done very little mileage but you would think the second owner would have got it serviced has it would have still been a reasonably expensive car to buy.
The trader also said it would only come with a short warranty (2 weeks or something) but I thought they had to give longer than that. There is also a HPI certificate with the car, although I’m not too sure when it was done. The car is priced well and I said they could do the free MOT history check online and even get an AA inspection for a few quid. So is all this enough to put people off or is it worth further inspection.
I have also said that I would personally look at either Gen 6 celica GT’s as they will be much cheaper or even gen 7’s although for the same price you will be looking at 02 plates. However all of these will sort of be the same for pace and mpg and I’m not sure if the toyota’s will be anymore more reliable.
So finally, any further ideas up to about £3.5K preferably UK cars for insurance purposes.

Just curious but why go from an 07 Focus to a car 3/4 years older?
Not too sure to be honest. It was on Finance so maybe they just don't want the hassle again or my borig talks on depreciation have gotten through.I've sentthem links to serveral celica's, Jags, BMW's and a few others all for sub 3K so there is plenty of good cars in this price range.
I've also said to avoid the coupe as it just doesn't seem right to me.
