Got name, numberplate and phone number of driver.
Guy says he doesn't want to involve insurance. What to do next?

Cheers

If it were me, I take it to a number of places that I know would fix it properly and get quotes from them and give them to the guy (since I assume he's offering to pay). If he starts with the "My brother's boss's dog can fix it for half that", I'd just put my foot down and say it's being fixed where you want or it's going through insurance.

Get his address mate, just in case the reg number is in trade or something like that then you can pass this on to whoever if needed.

Depending on the amount of damage I would/would not involve the insurers. If it's likely to be an expensive repair -- I'd much rather get it done right and not worry if I'll end up having to pay for it or not.

Also check if the other party is actually insured wink

He may change his mind and not want to pay, by which point your insurers will
want to know why you hid the accident from them.

My advice (based on experience last year):

1. Get an exchange of emails with him, so that you have his acceptance of fault in writing

2. Tell your insurance company asap, just in case it all goes wrong down the line (and 'coz you have to)

3. Decide whether you want to go down the insurance route or not. It's your choice, not his. If it looks like an easy fix, and if he's being reasonable, then there's no reason to force it through insurance unnecessarily (IMHO). But if he shows any indication of being an arse, leave it with the insurers to deal with.

4. If you decide to keep it out of insurance, then you get a couple of quotes from a couple of places you trust. Get him to pay up front - cash in hand. If the repairers can't be sure about the extent of damage up front, make it clear in writing that by accepting his cash up front you're not waiving your right to come after him for the remainder.

In that case, if the damage looks that significant, then I'd be straight off to insurance.

Declare it immediately to insurers

Get a brand new equivalent hire car.

Get in a claim for whiplash ASAP

Start a thread next year complaining about insurance prices

That's worrying.
You sure you have the correct reg, did you take pictures of both cars with reg clear?.
