TVR S series afterburners rear lights.
Discussion
Just wondered if anyone has bought and fitted these?
www.quadconversions.com/ford_Escort_Mk4_Aftreburner_rear_lights.htm
I'm not sure whether they fit the S series as the replacement light panel spans the width of the Escort, is the body width the same on the S as the Escort, is the profile of the rear panel the same?
I did see a red S type on the WEB with a similar set of lights but can't find it now. It was a fairly modified S with smoothed bumpers etc.

well a long time ago when tinted lights were being discussed these ones cropped up and were shouted down. At the time I remember trying to visualise them on an S. I shyed away and bought the tinted ones.
The red S to which you refer, or the "corvette S" has very similar rear lights and I did wonder if it was this quad conversion. Never did bother following it up. From the looks of the red S, it required a little work to make them fit - I recall the number plate on the red S is even smaller than usual and may even be a rectangular shape.
looking at it again I am not so sure...

I bought some afterburners from PH classifeds, part of an unused Zertec kit for the cerbera .. have never got around to fitting them to the S, but will one day ..
the panel you're looking at seems to be a one-piece fibreglass affair across the whole of the rear of the escort, and as such would need cutting and modding to fit ..
nice idea though

That's the one I had seen, thanks for that. I think this red S has had a fair bit of body modification and it does look fab, especially that rear end which has got to be as cute as Kylies.
However, I don't think it is the panel I posted the link for, look slike the back has been filled in and smoothed with individula lights fitted.
I agree about the Mk3/Mk4 Escort rear light panel in that it may not fit. Looks like it could be too wide for a start and may not fit as the escort lights on the S have been sunk into the overall shape of the body to give a fairly flush fit, so could be entirely different. At £290 + VAT it is probably too expensive to experiment with.
Back to my original plan I think ....this was to use the rear lights as a mould to make a GRP panel the same shape as the original lights with two circular recesses in them to accept a standard Hella afterburner style rear LED light cluster. These are sprayed the same as the body colour and then fitted in the same way as the original lights. The circular light units are fitted into the panels and wired up. Job finished.
So, does anyone know someone who is good at making up GRP moulds? :-)

nope, but seeing as a pair of rear lights will be about a tenner from your nearest scrappie
When I was trying to source a single rear lens last year, all the scrappies wanted about £20 - £25 for it!
I think these are probably a high profit margin item for them.
i still have one that was replaced from the S. the other one went to our esteemed leader.
I know of another 2 that have recently come off Claire's S - not sure if she is planning on keeping them or not.
£50 for the pair anyone?

I have a set of clear smoked on mine currently and they cost me a stonking £160!
So, £25 seems reasonable.
Between ordering the set I have now and getting them on the car I tinted a pair of standard escort lights leaving the refelectors red as required by law .....of course....... and they looked pretty good, probably a bit nicer than my current pair. I think my original tinted set now belong to TubbyStu. They looked really black, so would be great on a black car.
I have also pondered the idea of using a standard set of lights but not too sure as would have to cut everything off the back of them to accomodate the new lights and also would be difficult to recess them (new lights would stick out too much).
Perhaps I should get an old set and mask them with circles, then spray them the body colour and see how it looks. A bit too much like a Blue Peter project perhaps but it's worth a go if I can pick up a set of old lights which incidentally are only £20 a pair at my scrappies!

I wanted the afterburner kit of a MK4 escort, but the panel is the complete rear, and i didn't want to cut it out.
So i bought a cheap pair of clear lights which after 12 months of worrying if cars could actually see any light from behind, I replaced them with a set of red tinted lights as fitted to most boy racer rs turbo's.
Cost £45 of ebay, sold the original clears then for £65. So not only improved how the car looked, made a little profit too
if your curious as to how they look, look for my V8S advertised on pistonheads
