I visited Gary recently (GadgeS3C) and he showed me his all black wiring on his 3000M. What a stunning idea irked

I work in telecoms and this may help - a cable tone and probe device normally used for tracing telephone wires.

This is a chinese budget version - for a reputable make you are looking at £50 to £60. This is fine if you are careful with it.

If the link has expired search on ebay for tone and probe and / or cable tracer.

It is a cable tracing tool for telephone wiring - you ever wondered how telephone guys find a wire in that rats nest of wiring?

There are two crocodile clips - clip the black to earth (in my experience not always required) and the red to the wire you want to trace. (for phones you don't clip to earth but thats another story)

Here's the magic bit - when tracing the wire with the probe you don't need to touch the metal part of the cable - it fires a radio signal down the wire so when you get close(but not touching) the correct cable you start to hear the tone. When you touch the outer insulation of the correct wire it gets louder - its very easy and very quick to find a wire.

I hope this helps smile

As Chris says, he showed me this bit of kit as I mentioned I'd been trying to trace a electrical issue with the horns on the 3000M.

Although the wiring is black under the bonnet it also makes some random changes under the dash.

Had I known about the gizmo Chris mentions I'd have bought one and saved myself a few hours upside down under the dash!

Have put one on my Christmas list.
