I wish to hire a car in France for 5 days but am confused by the insurance access. The wording on their terms and condition states:-
`Rental includes Collision Damage coverage. Rental limits potential vehicle damage liability to an excess of approximately EUR 700.00.
Rental includes Theft Protection for the vehicle. Rental limits potential vehicle loss liability to an excess of approximately EUR 850.00.`

Further on it looks like when you pick the car up they block EUR 1550 on your card (plus fuel excess?) until you return ther car in good order. This is what that part says:-
`Please note, regardless of the method of payment used to make this booking, you will be required at time of pick up by the local supplier to leave a security deposit for the vehicle. This takes the form of an amount (minimum: excess+fuel+vat) being blocked on an international credit card in the name of the primary driver (cash deposits , maestro, switch, visa electron and all debit cards are not accepted). The blocked amount will be returned in full at the end of the rental provided the vehicle is returned in the same condition as rented.. `

Am i reading this right? My card doesn`t have that sort of limit on it. Help required with information on this...........Many thanks Martin

Not sure whether you are interpreting the contract correctly without seeing it all, but no doubt you will be offered an additional premium at the desk to reduce the 1,550 Euro excess to a more manageable figure. It will probably be at a rip-off rate but if your card can't take the excess, probably your only choice. Still, have a nice time.
