I was just reading a thread in the SpeedSix forum about pinking and how low RON fuel can damage engines. It's not something I ever thought of, and as a general rule I tend to put standard unleaded in the T350.

I was just wondering how many people use high RON fuel and how many are just using Standard fuel?

Always V-Power or equivalent, although I understand the Speed Six is also designed to use 95. My experience is that the engine with 95 pinks when pushed.

BP Ultimate myself. V-Power on occasions. Caught short once and had to put a tenner's worth of regular in to get me to the next garage. Don't recall any side effects, and IIRC was told when I bought the car that using 95 was not an issue. But based on the mileage I do it does not really make a huge economic difference.

Always at least 97, usually 99 but haven't had any problems with 95.

I use V-power or equivalent high octane fuel the majority of the time. Occasionally I'll put 95 in if super isn't available though I've never had any problems in running it on normal.

The manual says to use 95 for normal driving and 97 for race days.

Personally, I always use super (97) but it does run on 95 (or should do)

Standard 95 in the Tam. Have put 98 in sometimes with absolutely no difference so I don't bother any more. I feel the higher octane stuff is money down the drain for me.

That's my thoughts.. I've ran mine on 95 for 12 months with no issues, just wanted to make sure I was Ok doing that.

If I was to get it on a track I would go for the higher RON stuff though.

a friend of mine works for shell,so he shouldnt of made this public knowledge, but all you need to do to get the benifits from the higher octane fuels is to use them for every fourth tankfull.

Not quite.

Additives possibly, but the higher octane rating is useful all the time.

Yup, that's not right...if you're running some form of injector cleaner or other treatment maybe. I always put 97+ in my weekend toys, they're used less frequently so the cost doesn't become an issue plus anything I can do to help the car along is money well spent, I don't care about the hp increase some claim (bks unless you run serious fuel and map the engine accordingly).

If I were buying a performance car and the owner said he used 95 or any st you can buy at a supermarket I'd think he didn't care about the car, just my perception ofcourse smile

Ive just put 95 ron in mine out of necessity and you definatly notice the difference. Its pinking at high revs and doesnt seem to want to pull as cleanly from 3.5 to 5k.As with all TVR this will change from car to car but if you drive quite hard I think you would notice the difference.

You're talking about a 4.5 AJP though presumably ? My old 4.2 Cerb used to have a sticker requiring 98 ron+. I thought the thread was specifying the S6. The standard fuel for the S6 is 95 Ron or higher when doing a track day.

I think everyone's talking about the Speed Six, as it's the T car section.

I think you'd be unwise to use 95 RON for the small price differential.

Yes but in the virtual world his garage doesn't have a S6 smile. I think if TVR say 95 is fine for the Tamora then 95 it is. Right I'm outta here. biggrintumbleweed

If you drive "in the manner TVR intended", then I've found Shell VPower really is worth the extra pennies - definitely hear pinking when using full throttle/high revs on the cheaper stuff.... don't notice the car being any faster for VPower, but I just think it's a safer bet for the engine.

yep,ive always put the higher octane fuel in my previous toys, bikes & cars, just repeating what i was told by someone who should know what hes on about.maybe for a normal car thats the case, just not in the performance car bracket,i will quiz him again about it.

When I test drove a Tamora at a performance car dealer in Leeds I asked about the 95 RON sticker, thinking it would take higher RON fuel, now the guy freely admitted he wasn't familiar with TVRs so he speculated that higher RON might make it run a bit too hot. I've always put super of some form in
