Trying to find a freeware utility to convert WAV files to MP3 format, but everything I've found so far is stuffed full of spyware

Any recommendations?

CDex is open source and has no spyware. I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but it will convert your CDs (= wav tracks) to mp3 or Ogg Vorbis format.

Thanks - I'll give it a go The WAV files are all standalone files though, so I dunno if that will make any difference...

Edited to say: Yup - that did the job! Complete overkill for what I'm doing, but what the hell

Muchos gracias!

iTunes can create mp3 from wav files or rip straight from CD.

I use Monkey audio for archiving my CD's to hard drive:

Completely lossless so a good option as better codecs come along. I personally think MP3's sound pants
