S2 Engine Oil and Car Covers

Having just recently bought my first TVR, the S2, I have done my research (Steve Heath's bible and various website's) and the general consensus seems to be to use 15w50 engine oil, specifically Mobil 1. Does anyone know where the best place to get this oil from is? Are there any deals out there?

On a second note. I am taking the TVR to Cornwall in a couple of weeks and wanted to buy a cover to keep it dry and protected as I wont be able to keep it inside for the week and Cornish weather is always unreliable! What's the best cover to buy, at a reasonable price and where would be the best place to get this from?

Anyway, if you drive fast enough the rain won’t have time to settle.

What I worry more about is tourists + narrow roads (I’ll exclude you from the “tourists” bit as you clearly are a discerning gemtleman).

If you’re in Cornwall, order your oil from Opie Oils and pick it up when you’re down here…

When you say 'reasonable price' what do you mean? I have a Stormforce cover which is very good. It even copes with the old lady who lives below me scrapping past the TVR without letting the car get damaged.

It is £150 though so not cheap.


For stopping leaks though I would think a hood cover is the best thing. It's a lot smaller and easier to transport as well.

15w50 oil is the right grade for the engine, but IMHO Mobil 1 is an expensive choice and no better than other oils out there. I use a Miller oils semi synthetic and I think that's fine. I stand to be proved wrong as always!

And quicker and easier to fit, and with less risk of rubbing the paintwork or getting water under the paint if you accidentally leave it on after the bodywork has got wet.

When I had my S2 I had one of these. Very light, easy to fit, packs small and very waterproof.



Works well with roof up or down. Straps hook on to wheels.

Looks like the one for the job. I have a cover I use indoors, just need something to keep the weather out for a week, should it turn bad! £40 is reasonable too. I had a budget of £100 so looks like I can have some extra beer money http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/9.gif

Deadfast, I've been caught out in Cornwall numerous times before! People down there say it only turns bad when I arrive, perhaps I should stay away!

Im also in cornwall, (its currently raining) I am useing a tarp at the mo as i cant afford a decent cover its not ideal but will keep the rain out while your on holiday and only a tenner.

I've only had my S2 for a few weeks and just prior to me buying her she had a service at Oselli.On the receipt for the service it lists parts used....
OIL £152 !!
