Hi all

I want to find somewhere local and good to change my front pads, rear discs and pads and fit brake lines, but who knows what they are doing and might do it all on a saturday.

Any ideas?

Cheers

^ This - I did my pads the other day, although now I have a squeak frown Perhaps its because they are new? Anyone?

If the pads don't come with stick-on or built in shims then you'll have to use some copper grease every few thousand miles. It's very easy to pop the car up on stands, get the wheels off every couple of months, pop the pads out and slap some copperslip on them. Job Done!!

Alternatively they may just be a bit squeaky just for the first few hundred miles and then it wears off. I've had that on the RedStuff pads and new rotors i recently fitted all round to my Jag. After a few hundred miles they went quiet and have stayed that way.

I got the same with the YellowStuff on my wagon. Don't worry about it as it won't take that long to stop squeaking. Give them a blow out with an air hose once a week to keep the dust down, and please wear a mask while you're doing that. Job done!!

ETA: I didn't mean a scream mask or anything like that...Use a dust mask!! biggrin

Chaps, whilst i have you on this thread, i am upgrading to Carbotech XP8s pads on the front and godspeed 266mm with their Bluestuff NDX pads at the back.

However, i have bought their HEL braided brake line kit but have heard that maybe the fit is not 100% perfect and i should buy Goodrich instead. Thoughts??

Hel vs Goodrich?

I would fit the Hel. If you aren't happy with them take them back and get a refund, then go buy the Goodrich hoses.

I bet once they are fitted properly they fit well.

As far as your pads are concerned i would fit just one make, and with the same compound all round. Example: I would have fitted either the Bluestuff or the Carbotechs all round.

Thanks as ever for your input, always valued.
Already got the pads for the rear before I could get some Carbotech ones made up, so it's bluestuff on rear on new discs and Carbotech on front but on existing discs.

Do I need to do anything to the discs before applying the new pads?
Thanks

Just get some decent brake cleaner and paper towels.

Spray the discs with brake cleaner and wipe clean with the cloths. That gets rid of the protective film of oil they come with so your pads don't become contaminated and ruined.

Once the pads are on, get them run in and job done!!
