Taking expensive DSLRs abroad

Have any of you guys had problems in terms of having to declare expensive DSLRs when going through airports?

I'm off to China later this year and taking a Nikon D700 with a few prime lenses and was wondering if there will be any hassle with having to declare (or not) the items due to their value?

Do you all carry your purchase receipts with you when going through airports - even if you bought the DSLR in the UK?

Never had a problem anywhere..often have a full camera bag..two EOS 5Ds, four lenses plus usual accessories. Been to India, China,SIngapore,even Russia without problems, as well as through US and most Euro countries. Unless its a security zone I doubt if its an issue.

Never had a problem and I have been most places with a camera.
It is worth making your camera look a bit scruffy. Tape over the name with black tape and please change the strap.

Why these steps?
More to do with thefts or more to do with hiding the value of the camera at the airport?

In and out of multiple countries over the last six months and never had a problem and that's with a rucksack full of kit taken on as hand baggage.

Both!

It is really a case of not looking like a tourist. The cameara strap also is the best/worst way of saying how much your camera is worth.

Agreed, replace the strap with a nice neoprene one from OpTech. Slightly stretchy and this really makes a difference at the end of a long day when the camera just doesn't feel as heavy.

I took my D7000 to Florida in January and had no problems.
