Ive been asked to sell my step dads old 120k miles e46 straight 6, so its thirsty, 9 years old, has rusty arches, corroded alloys and has been resprayed badly in various areas. Mechanically its spot on and a credit to BMW, shame about the rest of it though.

So without putting it on ebay for 99p, is it possible that someone will actually buy this for a mutually fair price? i think most people will run a mile when they see the rust bubbles and fish eyes, or maybe joe bloggs just doesnt care?

If you price it right and describe it accurately it will sell. Pretty much anything will.

Cheap cars always find buyers. My uncle has a Ford Puma with low miles but it's been sat for two years which he advertised for £750, and he's had a lot of interest. He only put it up last night.

I, on the other hand, have struggled to sell my RX-8 for the past 6 months. Even when it sold (two separate buyers left deposits) they both disappeared! It's not even like it's expensive.

There will always be people looking for cheap cars. Even something like a knackered old
BMW will sell, as someone will think they're doing well getting a BMW for next to nothing. Go to any council estate and you can spot any amount of ageing cars that used to be expensive cars and are now in terrible condition, probably bought for next to nothing.

shine it up as good as it will go, load a whole heap of crap into the back. drive to a car-boot with for sale signs all over it. spend the day selling useless rubbish but gain the advantage of 100s of people who are on the look out for ANY bargin they can find feasting there eyes on your shiny beast.
get the deal done there and then. if its bought at a boot, they are bound to think they have had a good deal.

Top idea!

Might try that when the time comes to sell the VW (mobile dog kennel) Passat.

i managed to sell an rx8(yes really!!) for 300 quid more than i bought it for the previous year at a car boot. i took a deposit there and then. they have nothing to compare it to at that specific time and as long as its shiny and the price seems on the surface cheap the jobs done.

Some good info though. I actually machine polished it and its come up very good, if you get past the paint runs and what not. From 12-16ft away it looks brilliant, but when you get down on your hands and knees you can tell the paint and wheels are ste.

What were you asking for it? There must be plenty of people around that would buy it cheap(ish) and either track it, or tidy it up a bit and run it as a daily. I certainly was a few months ago anyway.

I would usually agree but have you seen all the private sales lately? Just about everything has 'over 15 days' on the advert.
I know someone who had a £200 cavalier with mot for sale for well over a month. Watching cars on ebay and theyre going for under market value. Not a good time to be selling imo
