Peugeot 309 GTI buying advice!?

Presume you've seen that, worth looking round the rest of the forums too. Rust is the big issue, along with the beams, so a solid car with a good beam is vitally important. Definitely check the boot floor above the spare for rust and if the sills are bubbling I'd give it a miss as the tend to rot from the inside out. Otherwise it's all fairly simple, as mentioned smokey, bad idling engines are best avoided and some cars (like mine) kangaroo a bit on light throttle around town which is rather annoying.

Depending on budget my mate's selling this one....having been in and driven it on a few occasions I can honestly say it would be just as taking delivery of a new one in 1988. Expensive I know but it's only on the market and they would be open to offers/trade in's.

As said rust, also the radius arm bearings, check that either or both of the rear rear wheels do not have negative camber, above the 3/4 window see if it has a crack, the size will depend how hard it has been driven, on the inside of the door both sides at the bottom below the lock check to see if the panals have not com apart.

My first car was a 309 SRi and I've always fancied a GTi. My SRi was broken into more times than Jordan.
Even the latest regsitered 309 gti is a 93-K so its mostly just age related things that you need to look for. I've not had one since 1996 but I remember problems with heater fan controls, tailgate release, door locks, suspension bushes, rear beam.
They are quite similar to 306 gti-6 just older, with a horrible dash and dodgy build quality. I loved my one at the time but things have moved on a lot and its hard to think of a reason to have a 309 gti instead of a 306 gti'6 (130 v's 160, 5 spd v's 6 speed, nicer inside and much nicer outside and 306 gti-6 now available for very little £££).

167bhp the 306gti, liked mine, was very clean and subtle looking (facelift) but never felt that satisfying to drive somehow, was nice inside though (half leather/alcantara etc).They are quite similar to 306 gti-6 just older, with a horrible dash and dodgy build quality.
