When was the airbag introduced

Hi Folks,

Just wondering when the airbag was introduced to the MX-5? I hope to be shopping for an MX-5 soon and I just don't like the look of that style of wheel (no offence to anyone that has one).

Can the airbag ones be taken out and something like a Nardi wheel put in? is it a neat job or does it just look silly afterwards?

With the Mk 2 I believe.

Actually I've just checked with Wikipedia and it says they were introduced for the 1994 model year, in some markets. Mine's a '94 Eunos and it doesn't have them, nor does our track car which is a '96 UK model.

Some late Mk1s have them, late uk models really I think.
USA cars will have been the ones to get it i'n 94. They even had s new dash design with a passenger airbag.

I would assume that all mk2 cars have them.

To change the wheel is not too hard but you need a resistor to clear the light. Also might have some insurance implications.

Excellent, its a Mk1 I have in mind, so as long as its not too late a model it should be fine.

I have a 97 Mk1 1.6 with an airbag.
However as its up for sale I hope not for much longer.

They were in UK 94' iS models.

As above. I have one on my '95 model. Well had... Now got an aftermarket one.
