Evo 8 or the like
Discussion
Is it worth getting an Evo 8 or another car of the same sort if you are only going to do about 3k a year.
Look at running costs, services etc and obviously this would be pretty low unless of a massive failure on the car.
I'm 27 with 7 ncb's checked the insurance and it is £1200 that the first quote i have got so should be able to get it cheaper.
Looking at an Evo 8 FQ300 what are they like to live with on a day to day basis?
Anyone else in the same situation?
The girlfriend doesn't like them but she doesn't really have a say in the matter.

I've had a couple of Evos, generally quite expensive to run in terms of fuel, servicing every 4.5K but great cars. Nice if running as a 'hobby' car but as a daily they will be a drain on the pocket.
Whats the fuel tank size, would i be right in thinking a full tank = 200 miles? if so i can live with that with the times i go to work and finish i should never be sitting in traffic with a duel carriage way run for 5 miles then back roads for a mile and half.I have been thinking of posting a similar thread, have liked evos and scoobies for ages but never got round to buying. 8's and 9's similar prices at the moment. I work in construction and currently ona project too far away to cope with the dire mpg, however if I move closer to home I think I'll go for an evo. Slightly prefer the look of 8's but I think 9's are a better car.
Only thing bothering me is the mpg, I can afford but it just seems a bit pointless now, I think the prices will crash even more considering the way fuel is going. Much like the prices of big engined 4x4's now. Maybe the future is with big powered diesels, or at leastsomething like an m3 that will achieve 20 something mpg.
Also I currently drive an auto BMW and have a second car and tbh it's not that great, you want your primary car to be good to surprise you on those unexpected roads. Rock hard suspension and constant gear changing gets a bit annoying!
OP 3k would be ideal in terms of low fuel and servicing costs, but running a 2nd car is never cheap especially an evo so would it be worth the limited use?!?!
Lastly, u never see evos on the road, they must make terrible daily drivers!

In my experience they're not worth getting. Ok it's got to be the fastest car I've ever driven but after 10 minutes that gets boring.
They are very uncomfortable any other times, too loud, too stiff and very expensive to maintain and insure.
I wanted one for years and I was in position about 3 years ago to be able to get one. It took me almost 6 months to find a good one. The usual horrors until my Evo7FQ300 came up, one owner 23k on the clock - I was confident it had been looked after.

each to their own but I find my ix perfectly comfortable, suspension is not too stiff and if anything the exhaust isn't loud enough. I think they softened them up a bit after the vii. They are very uncomfortable any other times, too loud, too stiff and very expensive to maintain and insure.

The servicing is every 4500 miles OR every six months, whichever is the sooner. They are great fun cars and you can average 23-25mpg if you don't drive like a tool everywhere. I even saw 290 miles on 43 litres of fuel over the weekend; 31mpg!!! But that was real gentle, speed limit everywhere, with kids in.

Alot of conflicting reviews here, more confused than when i started writing the thread.
performance over creature comforts?
their focus is on performance over comfort but from my experience (I've only driven the ix) they're perfectly comfortable on all types of journeys. Obviously suspension is pretty hard but not unbearable. Interiors are basic and there isn't much in the way of toys but they're spacous inside, have a big boot and go like sperformance over creature comforts?
t off a shovel. The only reason you don't see more around is running costs and insurance are steep. MEATANDCHEESE said:
You say "day to day basis" and "3k a year"
That's not right surely?
Anyways... I have always fancied an Evo but also agree that it's probably going to be more effective as a Toy rather than a daily.
Get a good test drive (Good Luck) and then you might have a better idea.
Basically i drive to work 4 days a week from my house and is 6 miles, but 2 of those days a drive from girlfriends house 3 miles away from work so in total 38 miles. Just under 2k for work miles now between me and her using her car aswell probs look at another 1k to 1.5k miles. That's not right surely?

Maybe the calculation was near enough right but it wouldn't stretch further than 4k as in the last 2 years I have only done 6k

Buy a super lightweight eg Ariel Atom. Will Leave any Evo for dead, Upper 20's to the gallon even if you welly it, 100 % reliable and servicing simple. More to the point more smiles per mile even in the rain !!!!
Couldn't really park that in the middle of town though
