Reversing light - pic - help please
Discussion
Hi all
TVR passed the MOT the other day (nice) but I had noticed that reversing light hadnt worked, and whilst the car was on the ramp, I thought it would be an oppotune time to have a dig about. I noticed a disconnected wire - connected it back up and hey presto! I had a reversing light...
....when I got home, my neighbour remarked why the reversing light was on all the time! Arrrrrgh!!!!
So, previous owner must have disconnected it - I now need to finds out why!
Here is a pic of the area (forgive my red arrow thing, but thats the wire concerned).

Any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks in advance

Hi Nosh,
Sounds to me as if either the reverse light switch is sticking on or your electrical supply is shorting out somewhere - both would give you a permanently lit light. If you can, I would suggest testing that the reverse light switch is not stuck on - wiggle it or remove it and see if it then opens the circuit. You could also put a meter across the switch to see if it is constantly closed circuit. If the switch is not at fault, then there must be a short in the wiring to the reverse light.
Hope this helps,
Ged

Cheers for the quick responses - but a couple of questions, based the picture below...

Is the thing ringed in blue the switch?
Do both wires (circled green and yellow) connect to the switch?
How easy is the switch to remove / adjust (I would be curious how exactly it works)?
Any other tips would be most welcome
Thanks again

I've had a look at a photo of the reversing light switch on my '92 Griff and can tell you
Yes, the thing you've circled in blue is the reverse light switch
On mine, there are 2 wires leading to it, not 1 and 1 which is earthed which is how yours appears to be.
Its dead easy to remove, there is a nut on top which you can't see and the lock nut visible in your photo. Undo the locknut, wind off the top nut and it drops out towards you as you are looking at it in that photo.
Tips.
Keep note of the turns you use to undo the locknut, so you can put it back in the same place, or you will be tinkering for ages to get the lights to come on at the right time.
In fact, this could be the problem you have now, so try taking it off then reconnecting it to the wires and test it.
I think it is a Land rover unit if you need to replace it.
