Classic RR Auto Box
Discussion
Yup. If you are going to be sticking big torque through it you'll need the heavy duty internals from Ashcroft or find a petrol station that can fit a new box when filling the tank up
A lot of Overfinch owners skimped and didn't choose the heavy duty box and they all munched their standard boxes quite quickly.

I have a 4.6 engine, going to strip down and rebuild, undecided on the spec yet.
A standard ZF model from the P38 will handle that easily and as a dumb gearbox it's easy to run if you are not using the Rangie ECU etc. It's only if you are going to ramp up the torque by doing something like supercharging that it would be prudent to use updated internals from Ashcroft.

The standard gearbox from a P38 is the EH variant that does need an ECU to run it. The 'hybrid boxes' retain the hydraulic valve body.

Sorry, I meant that it was easy to set up with after-market ECUs, I understand that more modern auto boxes are extremely difficult to 're-program' to work with different engines/vehicles/ECUs etc?The 'hybrid boxes' retain the hydraulic valve body.
