Everyday Car...
Discussion
I am looking into buying an Elise sometime soon, once ive got used to my mortgage! I would need it to be my only car and would use it everyday for work. I do very little mileage to work and being a siingle 24 y/o, I have no real problem with lack of space as the most I need to transport is my wet rugby kit!
I was wondering if you guys could shed a little light on the practicalities of the car in reality. I will take my time to try and find a decent example with a hard top. I am also assuming that the fuel consumption will be no worse than my 2.0 Focus which is retuning about 265 miles on £40.00!
Any thoughts? Cheers.

been using the elise as an everyday car for a year now. it's a perfectly practical solution as long as you don't mind a bit of noise, a bit of a chill in winter and a bit of heat in the summer. you'll also need a bit of help if you ever need to go to the tip or a diy store!
In my humble opinion the impracticalities of the car could never outweigh the amount of fun and the 'grin factor' that the car generates. it's the best buy i've ever made...
i get over 40mpg in normal conditions.
buy one tomorrow!!

Welcome welcome welcome, i got my s1 elise end of last year and not looked back since!!...if you havent driven one yet you will be amazed how solid it feels and how "right" they feel! compared to "normal" cars.
Well i use mine daily, not many miles either...mine is fine on petrol and i have magnex exhaust, kni induction.
Space is a premium, but like you aint a problem for me..
I drove my car in winter through rain etc, i do find if its left outside in rain you do get some wet on the door seal..not a lot!! honest. I think life without a hardtop isnt a real problem, previous owner/friend used autoglym roof waterproof stuff and its fine. Fairly warm to!..could just be close proximity to the engine!.
Costs arent nutty in my opinion, cheap insurance for me via club lotus through footman james.
Any way i will shut up now, go have a look at one i think you will find elise owners do look after their cars (in my experience..).
Good luck and let us know how you get on!.

I use mine every day (as do many others) and do around 25K miles a year in all weathers.
Luggage capacity is fine if you are careful packing (5 days for 2 is no problem)
mine is running 230bhp ish and I can still get 200-250 miles off £27 ish of juice
in general daily use the worst thing I find (Elise S2) is that in winter the heater is quite poor (takes ages to demist/warm the cabin) and in summer if you wear a shirt/tie it can be very hot in the car. If you can afford an S2 with the aircon option then Id definately get one - the heater/fan etc are uprated and much better
Running costs are gonna be higher than a Focus but not as much as most other 'sports cars'
HTH
bogie
ps - if youve never driven a RWD mid engined car before Id recommend doing a day on an airfield doing driver training with someone like www.1stlotus.com soon after getting the car - the proportion of people that stack their pride and joy in the first few weeks/months of ownership is quite high - spending £130 on training will save you that misfortune !
