Hi,

I've owned a really nice Seat Leon Cupra R(04) for the last 3 years and feel its time for something different to enjoy before i settle down and get myself a house and have to down grade to a shopping trolley. Ive got a budget between £6-10k, can be 2/4 seater, can be new or old, i prefer low down grunty engines and has to be a good sporty all rounder being able to comfortably do the long journeys every now and again. Things i've been thinking about do far are the 350z, S2000, R32 Golf and at a stretch an M3.

So any other recommendations or buyer advice for the options I'm thinking about?

Thanks
Adam

A golf isn't a sports car- it's a hatchback with a lot of power.

How is another hot hatch different? Anyway, Elise or Impreza/Evo

If you want a sports car, then a Caterfield is in budget, as is an early Boxster, or any of the usual suggestions, MX5, Elise etc

I have a second car which is a MNR Vortx Kit Car with a R1 engine and absoloutely no luxuries so this one just needs to be a every day car that puts a smile on my face, feels nice to sit in and looks good.

Z4 3.0 with a nice set of non run-flats is probably where my money would go.

O/T: But is it legal to fit non-run flats to cars that came with them as standard? My girlfriend's looking at a car with run flats and was told by the dealer that it would be an MOT fail if run flats weren't fitted. (New law this/next year I think?)

Absolute BS. Just need a can of foam and a compressor. Never trust what a salesman tells you.

I would say Boxster but you said you liked low down grunt so that doesnt really fit. By those standards S2000 really really doesn't fit.

Grunt tends to mean big engine so it's probably 350z or nothing.

Unless of course you don't really know what it is you're actually after OP...

Two posters above have given you the choice - either an Elise S1 or a TVR Chimaera. But more on the TVR IMHO.

You could get a well-sorted TVR Wedge for that money too!

If you go TVR save enough back for your AA membership.

Audi S4 B5 (preferably with K04 conversion)

Mine is running 480bhp (soon to be ~530) and is used daily, tons of torque, upsets 99% of cars you come across and practical too!

This is a bit of a curve ball, but only due to me doing it at the weekend.

How about an older MX-5, we bought one about a year and a half ago as part of a deal and it became the spare car if we ever had a non starter in the morning or work was being done on another car.

Keep you're Seat and have the wee sports car for some fun days. Its a 1.6 original UK car we have, its not setting the world on fire speed wise, but it loves to rev and handles sweetly after we replaced springs and front dampers, basic oil, filter and belt service. My folks took it to Italy\France and Germany last year for a road trip!!! it never missed a beat.

Parts are cheap and plentiful, i used it in autumns after getting a hard top out of local paper advert for £200.

My GF had never been in a sports car before and she loved driving with the top down around the highlands at the weekend, then at night we had my proper car to go out to meet friends.

Its cheap motoring at its best, i know its not a grunty motor, and if you do want something bigger, i would also suggest the likes of a Z4, or 350Z soft top as i have nothing but good reports from friedly owners.

But for you're budget there is a lot out there.
