My top tip is flip flops!. Not for the sun but to wear to the showers because there's no way you can get dressed properly in the cubicles. Pair of shorts and your flip flops and your ready.

How about travel insurance?

I mean, I have the EHIC, the car has european insurance and european breakdown cover. I'm not sure exactly what else travel insurance would cover? Maybe theft of personal belongings or additional medical/repatriation costs?

I've never bothered

Have you tried changing bulbs on modern cars by the road side
Maybe OK on the rears but the fronts you have to dismantle everything

Travel insurance is a must, as you say it will cover you for repatriation should you not be able to drive-I was run over at LM a fee years ago, got home the next day by plane, if you don't have it, you're bound to need it, what's £40? And the EIHC will only cover you for the basic State coverage. So any meds will be paid for by you.
