I have bothered these forums before about thinking of getting a Wrangler 4 door 2.8L diesel as a family car but I managed to hire a 4 door 3.8L petrol whilst on holiday in Kos.

Just wanted to say that it's mpg was nowhere near as bad as I would have thought, considering I was driving up and down mountain roads, along rocky tracks and a bit of beach thus rarely getting further than 3rd gear.

I covered 100 miles and calculated my petrol use as 19.5 mpg. That's better than my 2.5L BMW around town.

I used to average mid 20's in my 4.0ltr Cherokee. Nearly hit 30 on long motorway cruises.

Toying with the idea. The 3.8 is not available in 4 door here but I have driven the 2.8 diesel which is fine.

I actually like the fact that it's noisy and agricultural on the road and reminds me of driving back in the very early 80s. Well the sort of cars that I could afford back then.

Jeep UK have offered me a day's test ride and I just want to see if I can get all the kids and all the camping gear into one as current 3 series and roof box is not enough.

I should never have sold the Disco 3 laugh

This ^^^

Seriously the 4 door Wrangler is ugly and you may get 30mpg from the diesel. Why not the Cherokee or Grand Cherokee?

I had a serious look at Wranglers a few years back having had some fun in one on holiday.

First one I drove in UK was quite old and worn - it was unutterably ghastly on the road. Moved upmarket and had a look at a MUCH newer one in very tidy condition - it too was unutterably ghastly on the road.

Overall I came away really disappointed. My theepenn'orth would be don't go near one unless you live in a field or are willing to drive around in something which is a long long way below normal standards.
