...and are apparently having more abortions and divorces too. Extraordinary change in the demographics of marriage here I would have thought.

Women having more abortions than men? Who'd a think it? biggrin I imagine the number of women getting divorced is identical to men though. . . . . .

I have noticed that they do tend to have more abortions than men. Not sure of the reason.

We're more sensible, I've never even thought I might be pregnant.

Well said indeed, particularly in the worlds of Politics and PR which, sadly have become synonymous post Blair.

However there has clearly been a massive shift in the way society regards personal relationships and personal responsibility. Some good, some bad.

As a teenager in the 1960's I think it was long overdue.

The freedom of expression is so much greater now and the almost total lack of shame and guilt which must be good for individuals.

The reality of Sin is no longer (thankfully) with us for the majority: if you want to do it: if not do not.

Believe me, as the son of a Parson, it was once a real force in society.

But do not criticise others for their personal decisions, laise-faire and live and let live seems about right to me.

As a confirmed Agnostic Volupturian I thought I had gone to heaven early from about 1964 on.(ish)

There are downsides, but I think the real vissicitudes of modern society are more related to the welfare state and a something for nothing culture we have in Britain.

I think the huge improvement is equal opportunities and personal freedom better self awareness and a lack of trust in and respect for men are the main reason women stay single.

And who can blame them. Not I.

43% must roughly be all the 0 - 21.5 ish year olds. (probably actually biased towards the lower end) most of who will be at school rather than getting married.

Good point how many percent of that group are legally old enough to marry? Then of the reminder how many are Lesbian as they can't marry but have civil partnerships instead. Finally how many of the unmarried are in "civil"/common law marriages, i.e. have been together years but can't be arsed to do the wedding thing.

Exactly - roughly 40% of women under 50 are under 20 so not that likely to be or have been married.

I can help. I'm always ready to lend my time machine to anyone who promises to bring it back yesterday. That way, I know who's trustworthy because they've already returned it.

Confusing 'females' with 'women'?

Only people of a certain age are allowed to marry.
