I am currently using 'standard' plates. These have a 1inch in circle in the middle. My main issues are

a) the weights I am doing are getting too heavy for the bar
b) the diameters of the actual plates are smaller than Olympic plates which means the bar is too close to the ground for some exercises.

So I am thinking of upgrading to proper Olympic plates.

Now there seem to be 2 types of Olympic platers

Proper Olympic plates which are all the same size and colour coded (but expensive)

Then normal Omlympic plates which share the same bars as the above but the actual diameter of the discs chanegs with weight.

Now most weight sets I am looking at getting have 15kg as the biggest weight (normally sets of 100kg).

Question is - will I need 20kg plates to get the same diamter as the Olympic plates above? I believe the diameter I want is 45cm for the disc or the bar roughly 22cm from the ground.

If you were buying your own, would you buy metal or rubber?

Rubber plates are as prohibitively expensive as the official olympic ones aren't they?

Depends if you're going to drop them from above your head biggrin

Id say that unless you're doing a lot of Oly stuff then the bogo cast plates should be fine.
