I've just placed the deposit on a 2008 M3 with a BMW dealership.

I have just done an HPI check which seems to show some issues

It says possible problem with the mileage

Not if you can get your deposit back.

Look's like they've been randomly guessed or assumed. No logic in the mileage...

confused Someone did an 8000 mile drive on the 3rd Dec. '10, and another 7000 mile drive on the 27th Apr?

That's exactly what it says on the HPI report. I don't understand it either. There seems to be some mistake if there are two separate entries for the same day, unless that was the day it 'lost' 7-8k miles.

It's a dealership ... I guess I could if it came to it.

The car itself seems like a good deal - fair enough price, all the specifications I would like, etc.

How bad is this ?

Check in the documentation. It may of had new clocks, however the milage history on that car looks very dodgy and on a car of that value I would walk.

It does look concerning, but worth investigating fully with the dealership - I've had HPI's come back with worrying bits before and they've (almost) always come back fine after doing a bit of digging!

So where would those numbers have come from? What causes mileage to show on HPI for a given date?

Could this be operator error, where the mileage was incorrectly recorded at a dealership or something like that ?

The 30,000 mile reading on 27 Apr could have come from someone guestimating the mileage (as it is currently at 29,500).

Is this something the dealership could correct ?

Yeah, try explaining all this when you come to sell it.

Forget it and move on.

Sounds like it could have been a mistype at the garage i.e entered 30000, thenm realised he'd fked up and re entered 37000...

If you could get this in writing, I suppose it wouldn'y hinder a resale...

Car has only done 29500 as I saw it today.
