Which site is recommended for switching gas & electricity suppliers?

More by luck than judgement I managed to negotiate a blinding deal with EON last year, this is now coming to an end and I don't like the size of the price increase that seems to be coming my way.

So far I have tried:

  • confused.com
  • moneysupermarket.com
  • ukpower.com
  • uswitch.com
And every single one gives me a different answer!

One suggested I was on the best deal already, and anything I switch to was going to come with a £150 minimum price increase, may as well stick with EON, to one of the others suggesting I could save £150...

Surely they are all comparing the same products, if so how can there be a £300 difference between them?

Or did I miss something?

Wibble.

There needs to be a law against all these bloody tariffs.

shout 'How much is a unit?'

Much easier than the Over-60 Footballer Discount Weekend Lite (excluding days with a V in them) Tariff.

The comparison sites are not there to save you money, but make them money from referrals... They will steer you towards the best paying supplier and actively hide deals they don't get a kick-back from ( like if it's from the same supplier you are already with)

Do the maths yourself and check if quidco do cashback for that supplier.

I used moneysupermarket, but while researching switch sites found this one who seem to be impartial and donate referral monies to charity or something like that.

Like an IFA. Commission wrecks everything.

Hmm, must have made a mistake the first time around, just redone the four mentioned above and they are all now coming back with the same result, Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 14, which represents a £75 saving over what E.ON want to move me to, but a £140 increase over todays plan.

I used to work for one. If you are putting the actual bill in then they should all be the same. We spent a long time ensuring this was the case. Just make sure you ensure you have ticked the option to see all tariffs rather than just the ones thy have a relationship with.

While they do indeed make commission, tesco only stocks a limited range based on commercials. So long as you're aware of this it saves hours working things out with your own spreadsheet.
