Just seen the current Mercedes TV advert promoting the new C Class coupe. The build up shows models from Merc history and (in my eyes) highlights that the older models were much classier than the current. Risky when you are trying to showcase your latest offering.

Is it just an age thing? Will people be recalling the 2011 Ford Focus with dewy eyes in 20 years time? perhaps we all just like what we grew up with?

Yup people complained something shocking when they moved to the squared off models of the 80s and now the 190e and the W124 E class are regarded as classy understated and well built cars.

BMW get this far worse everytime they release a new model.

I wouldnt say its risky, surely manufacturers think they're moving forwards with designs etc?

lol I saw the merc ad and thought the same!! Ok the latest range looks good but there have been some awful dull crap machines in the last 15 years, funny how these were excluded, they would never find any w210s without scabby wings!!

I get dewy eyed when I look a the mk1 Focus. Soft, smooth and sharp all at the same time. The epitome of Ford's 'Edge' styling and far better than the lardy mk2 and the ultra-generic mk3. No wonder the car overhauled the family hatchback market, looking like that.

The same can be said of the Fiesta. The mk5 looked great, then it looked like a squashed, square Focus and now it just looks lardy.
