I need some help here..

So I gave my e46 320td compact to the mrs because her car was crap and I work from home so dont need to go out much in the day when she is out in it. We have an old landy so I figured if she was out I would just take that. It's a bit of a shed so that got boring fast, its also extremely slow.

I decided what I needed was a fun toy for using on the weekends and the odd time i do actually nip to the shops or something in the week.

I ended up getting this:

Loved it, it handled really nicely, and a bit of fun, not mega fast but I live in the middle of nowhere surrounded by open twisty roads. However, it turned out the engine was knackered. It took me a while to sort this out with the dealer I bought it from and out of frustration I just took another car off his forecourt (which was double the price more or less) because I just wanted another car sooner rather than later.

Its a manual 330ci, facelift model. Very very nice car. Comfortable, reasonably quick but it doesnt feel fast at all. In fact my diesel compact even feels quicker sometimes. Its a big car and whilst it does handle very nicely and the 3 litre straight six sounds lovely when you give it some beans, its not really ticking the weekend / fun box properly. Took it on a long drive the other day and it was an excellent motorway cruiser. It was a bit of a rush / impulse buy.

Now I find myself wondering if I made the right choice, this is after spending £600 getting a few niggles sorted including replacing all of the bushes and a few other suspension bits to get the handling perfect. It does handle great, goes great, sounds great, but i'm not sure its exciting enough. Silly because it really is an excellent car.

I find myself hankering after an S1 Elise really bad, I could part-ex the 330 with only a bit of cash on top and get a really nice one. That would certainly tick the fun box and if i need to do a longer journey the mrs can take the elise or landy to work while i take the 320td, its very rare i need to do a long drive though and weekends again we can just use the 320 for shopping etc.

Someone point me in the right direction :/ I'm a bit confused after changing car 3 times in as many months at the moment and almost going to do the same again..

Thanks, exactly right about the speed, you have to be breaking the speed limit to feel like you are going fast. Also, having 2 x 3 series allbeit very different ones is not giving me enough variety either.
