Megasquirt ECU ordered
Discussion
Ordered my fuel only kit some time back, but only installed it recently due to a few other issues.
I've had a few problems getting a steady Idle from the base map so have changed back to the Original ECU, as it due in for its MOT tommoroow.
Taking it to the Mappers on Friday (providing it passess the MOT) so should be able to post some results after the weekend if all goes to plan.

Look forward to hearing about it !!! I've been reading everything I can lay my hands on to learn as much as possible, and it seems both simple and complex at the same time. I've torn my hair out for years on a variety of cars trying to get a good spark at exactly the moment it's needed, messing around with advance and retard, turning the dizzy while the engines running, listening to SU carbs through lengths of plastic pipe etc etc, bombing off up the road thinking hmmm, feels a bit better... Now though, the idea of pressing buttons on a keyboard seems more enticing than risking electrocution or getting my glasses which are hanging from my neck caught up in a rapidly rotating fan belt I've had a few problems getting a steady Idle from the base map so have changed back to the Original ECU, as it due in for its MOT tommoroow.

Hi Wicker Man, should be plug n play laptop with USB into the ECU.... er, I think
I thought only ms3 was direct USB connection.
Ms1 & 2 are Serial Port, so you need a decent converter.
I think

try and get a serial to USB converter with the Prolific chipset as windows natively supports these be it XP/7 etc
like here http://www.tronisoft.com/prod.php?id=2441Edited by Simon says on Tuesday 31st May 15:36
My MS2 is serial port only. Emerald offer a USB port as an option but its very expensive for some reason.
In my case extablishing comms with my MS2 caused a great deal of grief! I tried four laptops (one with a serial port), XP, Win2000, Win2000 new install, Win 98, three USB converters, MegaTune and MS Studio software and a lot of time!
I'm a big fan of the serial port/RS232 interface but for some reason the MS2 seems to make life very difficult. Currently I have to reload the converter driver every time I want to talk to the MS2.
Watch out when you do establish comms as the first thing the software does is invite you to overwrite the ECU with whatever default file the program has open. I bet that's caught a lot of people out!

I had the car on the same Dyno as I'll be using tomoroow a few months ago
A before run on the same dyno will make a useful comparison, expecially if the weather conditions are similar. The MegaSquirt has a fuel 'cut-off on overrun option' to improve economy, BUT this is at the expense of pops and bangs. Have you considered that?

The MS1, MS2 and MS3 can all have USB built into them. I currently only offer this on the PnP ECUs from V8D, but its something I will roll out to all MSs any time soon, once I can build up some stock of the components needed. In my case extablishing comms with my MS2 caused a great deal of grief! If you have issues with an adaptor then its usually due to it not being a reputable make or the buffer settings not being correct. If you want a built in USB then I can do the mods for you as long as it's one of my ECUs, email me directly for a cost,
thanks,
Phil

Got the remapping done today. Took quite a while to get a smooth idle, so we didn't manage get the fueling perfect over the full range, due to time constraints.
Pretty happy with the results so far; Power up from 270 to 301.2 BHP (240 to 264 @ Wheels) and Torque up from 282 to 325.2 lbft, compared to the original ECU.
Should also mention it was ridiculously hot today (for Aberdeen anyway) 26.4C compared to 15C when the original runs were done which will affect the results.
Dyno Charts below:

Looking forward to the week end
