Didn't really have any real intention of buying, but still fun. I test drove a 2010 Renault Clio sport RS,2007 Volkswagen Polo Gti and a 2004 Mazda Rx8. Clio very fun indeed!

Anyone else test driven any nice cars?

Have you bought any of the cars you've driven or were you just out for a jolly?

If it's the latter then that's a bloody poor show and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Definitely this.

I can understand the appeal, but there are plenty of threads illustrating the unintended consequences of this; genuine buyers unable to get test drives. Which is not good. At all.

Lloyd, you still have time to rescue this thread and yourself from the PH wolves.

All you have to do is point out how you were not planning on buying the cars that you mention at the time, but they are very likely to be possible purchases for you in the near future.

And point out that you will only ever pay cash for these cars, finance is for wimps etc.

Well to be fair I was with a friend who is looking to part exchange his car, so not all entirely pointless. And he has booked to have a further test drive and price review on the Polo and Clio. So not really a total waste of time, and it was from a main dealer, not private.

So you drove a car your 'friend' was looking to buy?

Very good.

He threw you a bone there, Lloyd. And you just shat on him - poor show.

I've test drove a few nice cars recently. Last year I considered a mk1 Audi TT 225. I test drove a couple but found them to be quite expensive for what they were, even at the bottom end of the market. Fabulously engineered no doubt, and quite capable and fast enough but not particularly fun. Supremely practical though, the size of the boot suprised me.

I also test drove a Lancer Evolution 8 before deciding I'd rather have an Impreza before ultimately deciding a fast cruiser type saloon was what I was after.

Iv never particularly enjoyed test driving cars. I enjoy testing a car, and my ability, once I'm fully comfortable with the car and I know its safe to do so. Not the few miles with the salesman/seller.

Ive never test drove a car with out any intention of buying. To be honest I normally end up buying the cars I test drive.

But i've driven on test drives a 306 hdi, crap. Megan coupe, POS which should never be driven by another human being. Those were both when I was 18 and unsure about what to replace my corsa with.

BMW 323
Nissan Skyline
Citroen AX

Kawasaki zxr400
Kawasaki KLR 250

All of which I ended up buying, I also test drove a Audi A4 for a mate who was getting a first car. He ended up buying the car.

I did test drive an old cbr400, however, I decided it wasn't for me, and compensated the seller for his time and fuel money.

If I am looking to buy a new car I will narrow it down as much as I can by email/ phone calls, then go to look at a car, a test drive is only really a formality as I will have normally decided before I get in the car.

After having various time wasters look at one of my cars I cant express how frustrating it is for someone to come look at a car, then decide it wasn't for them (despite the car being very good condition and keenly priced), I think they were just looking to kill a couple of hours and it pisses me off!

Test drove a Micra which my missus ended up buying! My life is so exciting! Don't think I'll ever have the cash, or the inclination to buy a brand new DECENT car frown
