Hi Folks,
Whats the best thing to bond a rear view mirror onto the windscreen, the car is an old BMW e36, the metal round bit goest straight onto the screen.

Araldite? superglue?

Superglue is too brittle.

I seem to remember loctite doing a special adhesive just for that purpose. I think halfords sell it.

lovely job, thanks, I did wonder whether superglue was a bit too hard.

Tiger Seal and a stick to hold it in place. Don't forget to clean and key the area first.

I had to do the same to my e36 - didn't have a rear view mirror when I bought it.

I looked at the proper rear view mirror bonding stuff, but they were ridiculously expensive for what you got and if it didn't work, there was no second chance without buying again there was so little in a pack.

I just used some quick setting araldite and masking taped it to the screen and left it over night, haven't had a problem with it since. Still seems very secure.

Sorry if this is obvious as well, but you can detach the little metal tab from the mirror, so it is easier to glue separately (120 deg' twist I recall), also do you have the little rubber gasket as well? Think it is meant to make sure there is enough depth of adhesive.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Folks and thanks sticklebrick, yes have the metal and rubber, still attached to the mirror, it fell off intact!

I'll give it a go, cheers.

Mike.

Tha's half of all you need for an automotive toolkit - if it moes and it shouldn't, use duct tape. If it doesn't move when it should, use a hammer.

No help at all, sorry wink

With you on that one paul, technical tap with a hammer usually works with my standard of vehicles...
