I'm off to count grains of sand for a while and am leaving the car in my Dad's garage whilst I'm away.

Any hints for a car which is likely to do <500 miles a year?

My Dad has kindly volunteered to blow off the cobwebs once in a while but it's not likely to be used as much as is ideal for a 17 year old mk1!

I'm thinking the obvious:
Douse everything in WD40 or 3in1 or something
Pump up tyres to prevent flat spots
Check battery once in a while and charge if required - do the Westco batteries tend to run flat just keeping the immobiliser running?
Leave in gear (handbrake off)
...

Anything else recommended? Any issues people have had after rousing their cars that could be prevented?

My Dad is handy with cars so I'm not worried about the car really - just want to keep it in good nick for my occasional trips home!

Cheers!

Sounds like you have the main points sorted, but I used a dust sheet too. Might be worth clearing the drainage points and ensuring the sills are clean and dry.

Mine started on the button and only needed tyres pumping up after 8 months!

Good to know, cheers for replies. I sorted the sills recently so they should be fine.

Awesome - glad to know it won't turn into a mate's old MGB - rusted more in the garage than out of it!

I was in the same boots as you about 10yrs ago.

left my MX5 with the folks whilst I was away working in China.
Dad said he would give it a run out every now and again.

Since then the truth has transpired from himself and other mates of his I have since met who said he had a whale of a time hooning it all over the place at x Leptons !

So - don't worry too much about the cobwebs, it'll get driven !

I only have 800 odd miles left on the limited mileage insurance so I better remind my Dad to keep to his own MX5 if he wants frequent driving thrills!
