I had 2 speedometers and a closck that needed repair.

I sent them to a Company who specilaise in instrument and cable repair. Let's call them Slow Cables.

I sent them on 16th April and after 3 chase up calls they might actually be on the way back.

What annoyed me was the call today:

I received a text message this afternoon (which I don't ususally check until I leave work) asking me to contact them as my order is ready for despatch.

SC'Ah yes, Mr James instead of £110.00 it will be £176.40.'
Me' 'Why?'
SC 'One of the Speedos needed a new movement and a new PCB'(It's part electronic)
Me 'OK, so when did you advise me of the increased cost'
SC 'Erm'
Me 'I have called you 3 times and I received a quote for the clock I sent to you with the speedos but nobody mentioned that it would be more than the £55.00 each that it states on your website.
SC. 'The price on the website is a sample cost'
Me 'Where does it state that'
SC 'Erm'
Me 'rolleyes OK Here's my card number...........'
SC 'You've missed the post today. If you'd called earlier it would have gone out today.'
Me banghead If I had received your text earlier I would have called you.
SC. 'Will you be in on Thursday to sign for your delivery'
Me: 'No, Can you make a note on the delivery to deliver to either side neighbour for signature?'
SC. 'No, but you could leave a note on your door.
Me: rolleyes I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for your help.

Obviously never heard of customer service

How do these companies survive?

Sounds like a slow service - maybe just the way they do things

You ring them after a week and they say 20 working day turnaround - which is IMHO unnacpetable in this day and age and they can't even keep to that.

They should have the word 'Speedy' in their name if they offer a slow service, should they?

Did you bother asking how long the turnaround is before you sent them the speedos, or did you just assume?

I assumed initially, partly based on their name.

When I rang them to confirm they had received the speedos they didn't tell me how long I should expect to wait so I asked and was told 20 working days. That was on 16th April and I am still waiting.

Maybe I'm an arse for expecting a reasonable turnaround time but they're hardly speedy and their communication is best described as appalling. The attitude of the staff on the phone was at best offhand and to perform work costing more than expected without checking is hardly reasonable but they kno they have you over a barrel.

I hope the damn things work when I eventually get them back.

Buyer beware, I guess. A quick Google or a post on here would have revealed countless instances of them being anything but Speedy.

Which I found out after I had sent them off for repair/calibration.

Hope someone else doesn't fall into the same trap.
