Just reading the thread about the chap with the fubar'd mini engine reminded me of something else that seems to be very strange.

Manufacturers seemingly release different 'models' / 'series' of the same car to suit certain markets (or so they say).

BUT..... How can they justify the fact that in the UK a typical warranty would be say 3 years or 100,000 miles - whichever is reached first.

Yet here in the €urozone, you get the same 3 year warranty but only 100,000km!!! How the fk can that be right!? Thats approx a third less mileage your same model car is likely to be covered just because it happens to be on the continent!

In other industries, the antisipated costs of the warranty are accrued and built into price.

I sell into some high-margin countries, where consumers are willing to pay more but expect things like long warranties. Hence I see it as a selling point adding value as part of a higher price.

Some countries / regions just want the lowest price possible, so we'll arrange that, reduce the warranty period / our expected warranty exposure.

Because most UK warranties are 3 year/60,000 miles....

Which is 100,000 km near as makes no difference

Because warranty is just a "risk provision" that something will need fixing during the term. A manufacturer can increase the warranty mileage and therefore take more risk ... then there is just the question of the £ value of the extra liability.

But the eurosheds Im talking about for transporting the kids around are comparable...

ie UK warranty 100,000 miles - euro market 100,000km - How can that be justified across the same manufacturer?

Its not like the cars are cheaper over this side either, nor the tax, fuel, new owner tax, circulation tax, insurance laugh etc...

Its just a fking rip off basically!
