Hi all,

Just a quick question for some knowledable PH'ers, i'm going to be driving through switzerland in a few days and i realise i have to buy their version of Road Tax for something like £30. Is this avaiable from all border crossing's or do i need to have bought it in advance. I hope at this late stage its the former!

TIA, James

ETA: We will be coming in on the E35 from southwestern Germany if that makes any difference!

You can get it on the border crossing (I did anyway), so don't worry!
One word of caution though when driving in Switzerland - DON'T speed (or get caught anyway), if you do it'll cost you a bloody fortune!!!!

Buy at the border - if you pass a small unmanned border you can get them at any petrol station, post office, supermarket kiosk etc - It's called a vignette (at least in the French speaking part anyway)...

great, thanks! I will wait until we get there then!

sparks_E39, i think the £30 lasts all year. Knowing what switzerland are like with driving offences i don't fancy being caught without one!

I certainly wont be doing much speeding, not only for reasons of speeding tickets, but unfortunatlely going to be driving for economy most of the time frown most of it seems to be boring motorway, although i am eyeing up some alpine passes like St. Gotthards pass in southern switzerland biggrin

You can also buy on the motorways that are close proximity to the borders.. so can pick one up while filling up/ grabbing a coffee.. saves faffing around at the border..

Bought mine for €40 in Germany (1 month ago).. this is now the going rate..

Indeed. You are supposed to peel the sticker off an attach properly to the windscreen. If you are tight, you can attach without peeling and sell on ebay on your return.
