Frame Colour Change...

Hi guys,

Looking for some advice...

Has anyone had the frame sprayed a different colour / done it yourself?

Any recommendations for companies who would take my bike complete and strip it for me and put back together after spraying it?

Predicted cost of this?

Any help would be appreciated!

£280 to strip, paint and rebuild by the looks of the price list... I guess that is close enough to what I was expecting... may be something for the future!

I guess I could do the stripping and just send it on to them, would save £160.

I've seen their work in the past, top quality, better than OE in my opinion.

I got frame and bars done (kawasaki green and white) by ABC in Nailsea for £40 all in. Cash etc.

Granted not as good as Argos but for me its a steel MTB thats going to get a pasting and right now after a few rides it still looks super bling so am happy

If this is for a Boardman, or any other cheap frame, I would either go for a £40 powder coat, or a new frame in the colour that I wanted.

This is my thinking to be honest. As good as Argos's work is I think the cost involved is probably more than the frame is worth when you consider the cost of parts on the frame!

Hey, give it a year and it may be upgraded if I get in to MTB'ing again.

I've heard that for £35, these guys will have the frame dipped / blasted, phosphated (anti-rust) and powder coated

A guy on another forum had two done and was pleased with the finish. A few years ago, I paid Chas Roberts to respray a frame. It looked good for one ride. Whoever he outsources it to does a terrible job. The paint was soft as ste.

Not saying don't do it but make sure you find a way of documenting the change in colour if the bike is insured.
I changed my marin frame to canary yellow with red decals it then got nicked. Quite rightly I suppose, the insurance company required proof that it was indeed the frame I was saying it was and not something different. Luckily I had thought of this and taken photos of the frame after colour.change showing the marin stamp in the dropouts, otherwise I suspect I would of run into difficulty.
