I've 10 days arriving Amsterdam on 20 June departing 30 June. I want to do Ypres and Thiepval WW1 sites at some point in that period. Other than that I'm open to suggestions....would south to the Alps/Stelvio/Salzburg be runners though I definitely don't want to spend all the time driving. Would very much welcome other suggestions.

If you can spare the time you should be able to string about 50 monuments and museums together on the drive from Ypres to Thiepval - there's loads to see round there. I used to live there and I've not seen it all!

The site of the Batle of Waterloo was interesting.

If you are willing to travel around (Metz area) then the Maginot Line is a great - do your research as one or two of the forts are fully accessable with guided tours however make sure to check the opening times.

I would recommend a trip in the Black Forest, beautiful for a walk and to work up a bit of an appetite and then a delicious hearty lunch.
