JUST GOT MY FIRST ELISE!!! (Two faults though)
Discussion
First of all, a big sorry to S_Works as I haven't been able to get back to you over the past couple of days, I'm currently without internet access of my own.
Anyways, my new machine is absolutely gorgeous I'm well and truly in love with it!!!!!!! It's a Titanium silver S1 with mats, alloy winders, kenwood audio and a single oval exit sports exhaust. No engine mods. Yet.
I was able to get a reduction in price due to two faults, which I would greatly appreciate if any one else could help me solve.
The first thing is that there is absolutely no temperature readout on the dash. The fuel, odometer and trip meter work fine, but there is just a blank in the bottom corner of the screen where the temp read out should be (a little worrying).
The second is that the alarm won't activate. When you press the arm button on the keyfob it blinks the hazaards twice then makes a continuos quiet beeping tone??? I think it means there is a fault with a sensor somewhere, if this is the case is it a common problem? is there a particular sensor I should look at first? - Any help would be extremely useful as I'm a total novice with these cars!!!
Thanks guys and I look forward to meeting a few faces in the near future!
PS - S_Works - Would still like to meet up sometime soon as a few ownership tips and pointers would help a lot!

first one could be a simple as a faulty sensor (think its the blue one on the coolant pipe fron/left of the engine) - about £20 for a new one...or could just be loose wiring
2nd one is similar - its complaining that a door/boot etc is still open so another dodgy/stuck/poorly adjusted sensor - check the door, bonnet and boot switches for the alarm.
best do a search around the P2P networks on the web and try and get hold of a copy of the service manual in .pdf format for reference
cheers

Just a thought, but the temerature reading is supposed to be blank until the engine has warmed a little (can't remember exactly when it starts reading, but blank until something like 40 degrees), so looking on the optomistic side, it could well just be a faulty sensor, wiring or bad connection.

The alarm could also be the intrernal sensor.
Try setting the alarma s normal, then press the other button on the fob to disable it, if the problem goes away, then check the plug is in properly. The sensor is mounted on velcor and can get knock, tightening the cable and pulling the plug out.

Wow people - you are a truly knowledgable lot!!!
The alarm is the interior sensor, as the second button stops the beeping and allows the alarm to arm itself. I consulted the manual to locate the interior sensor and there is just a small piece of velcro staring back at me where the sensor should be!!! Could it be located anywhere else or has it taken a substantial 'konck'!!!
Am hoping the temp guage issue is a loose sensor, any ideas where/how I can get at it??? Is it simple??? Don't even know what it'll look like when (if) I do manage to stumble accross it!
And yes a copy of that CD would be muchos appreciatos'd - please text me your address 07745 620339 and i'll get a disc in the post ASAP!!!!
Thanks guys (and possibly gals?)

My alarm sensor was forever dropping off its velcro. it might be dangling about on its wire, somewhere around the bottom of the seats. Mine is now glued onto the velcro pad with araldite - no further problems so far!
The temperature sender is easily accessible - the position of all sensors etc. is clearly shown in the Lotus workshop manual, along with a nice, old-fashioned (easy to read!) set of circuit diagrams for the electrical circuits.
