Hello all,

I have for several years used TomTom mobile on my Nokia N95.
However the maps fro TomTom mobile are not upto date, and as far as I know, will not be updated.

OK, so July 2010, I get given a new Garmin Nuvi 1690t, present.
With Nuvi link, which connects to Google for fuel, and traffic stuff.

I initialised it, and used it for about a month, but really can't get on well with it.
I am stuck in my ways with Tomtom

So, I am looking to buy a Tomtom, for around £150.

I would even do a cash either way swap for this Garmin, as new in the box, for a used Tomtom.

So who can suggest a Tomtom for me?

i really like the XL model tomtoms especially the newer ones which are slim at flat.

You can get a UK edition one and easily alter the maps. Just get one with good storage of 2GB>

Second hand 530 from ebay should be under £100 , I still have one in my 'spare gadgets' box as it does a good job and saves me lending my 530 to the Mrs on the 1 or 2 occasions a year she wants to use it.

If you can stretch to a 550 (not sure of current retail) you will get HD traffic (for a monthly subscription) which is truly excellent. I used to have traffic on the 530 (via bluetooth to the phone for data) which was ok but HD blows it away, its fab.

I prefer the 5xx series to the more basic XL's as it they are lighter and slimmer and have better battery life. I dont use the hands free phone option but it works ok , just never needed it.

ETA corrected the model numbers ....

no,they are both 'GO' models, so GO530 and GO550 , but both models do have the XL screen. The XL branded models (rather than 'GO' branded) are more basic - shorter battery life, a bit bulkier and heavier and less features buit my dad has one and they do work well.

ETA: if you are not based in the UK then the traffic stuff wont work, in which case probably better to just go for the standard XL model rather than the GO.
