focus mk1 stereo change keeping stalk controls

Ive just bought a mk1 focus with the 6000CD multichanger compatible head unit. Id like to be able to plug in my mp3 player or use mp3 Cds but dont want to lose the stalk controls on the steering column. Would the controls be compatible with a newer ford head unit or is the best option to buy one on the gadgets that plug into the current units multichanger socket to allow an aux in. Or are there any other options?
